As I become more active and popular on this site, I noticed an aggressive trend involving people harassing others for paltry or non-existent reasons, which truly appalls me.
The attackers claim that you as an artist should be bashfully, meekly and politely accepting the abasement inflicted upon you, they insult and goad others for their personal entertainment on dA or outside (artist-confessions etc.), they pick on words to mangle and twist your comments so that meaning is distorted making you look bad, they belittle you and your defenders standing up for themselves when the attackers become even more vulgar, vicious and infantile. You're being constantly reminded of your tiniest mistakes as your every flaw is highlighted and inflated to the infinity on every occasion.

I don't know about you, but I absolutely refuse to invest my free time in order to explain my motives and listen to these obnoxious, drama seeking brats who are bragging with their freedom of speech online because they have no adult or peer paying attention to their highly opinionated teenage wisdom of people and life. Online heroes - life zeros who can't behave in public. And this is why the block tool should be used.

Remember, you can block anyone for any reason on this site. The people mentioned in the upper paragraph are also trying to shame you into believing that you're running away from the argument by using a block tool on deviantArt. This is not true in many cases.
Guess what? You're not their mother obliged to counsel them or to endure their crap, so when you feel someone unjustly accuses you of something, calls you names and insults you, and never listens to your explanation, just block them. If you're guilty of violating the rules, only dA Staff can punish you. No one else.

Some say "A block is the last stage of butthurt" - which is one of the most stupid quotes I've ever read.

You will be probably called "butthurt" for blocking the "interlocutors" pestering you, but in many cases you aren't really feeling hurt because someone uses cheap tricks to fabricate a loop in your reasoning, or you're simply tired with the gibberish, circular reasoning ("You're mean because... you're mean! Get over it!"), shifting the burden of proof ("I need not prove my claim, you must prove it is false"), and many other logical fallacies insulting your intelligence.
Besides, the term "butthurt" is so overused that it probably won't impress you much after a while.

Why is this block tool so important? Let me use a bit controversial analogy: when a small child throws a hysterical fit and you can't placate her, it is good to isolate this child for 5-7 minutes until she calms down. (BTW: Small children don't have a tendency to inflict wounds on themselves out of anger in contrary to teenagers. She doesn't have to be alone anyway, the child just needs to think that you ignore her, you still can monitor her from your cover; Info from pedagogy classes and my own experience). Attention deprivation works best with trolls because they're expecting you to take them seriously but they can't have it as you block their feedback. They may take their complaints elsewhere.

Thank you for reading.

You definitely know what you're talking about in this journal here :iconanimefaceplz:
Unfortunately, I know from experience that older people, adults, sometimes like to pull that sort of crap too :P
In my case, this person (I'm not saying her name) was becoming real irritated with me, because some of my artwork resembled hers, or as she put it, "Was directly and exactly copied/stolen and ripped off". All because of a similar-looking pose :P
But then if anyone called her out on what she was doing (belittling me and bullying), she would send that user a huge explanatory note, twisting words and "proving" how she was right, and I was the bad guy. And when I blocked several of her white knights, she sent me a message stating how I was a lowlife for doing that. And because I blocked them, I was somehow confirming that I was "stealing" her artwork. Really, I blocked them because, like your journal states, I wasn't going to take the time to deal with their crap or dignify their "critique" comments with a response, thus only ensuring a full-blown comment war that would have attracted more unwanted attention, if I had. And the really sad thing about this all, is that this user isn't a run-off-the-mill wisecracking troll. She's a very popular artist, and one that a lot of people look up to. I used to too, until I found out that there was a wolf beneath that sheep's clothing :P Still, why people have to think they can feel obliged to act that way is beyond me  And granted, there are a lot more details concerning this situation, but I've already wrote a longer-than-is-necessary comment, so I don't feel the need to turn in an essay here :XD: ;) (Sorry for ranting...I've just got a lot to say sometimes ^^; )
Excellent journal, either way. It delights me to no end when I find stuff like this, it lets me know that there are people out there that think with a level head, instead of jumping to conclusions all the time. A gold medal for you!

I love you for making this journal.
Trolling originally wasn't cyber bullying, so many stupid children are doing it wrong.

So far I've only had to block one flamer, I have used the function in the past to block people I no longer wished to be associated with due to various reasons, one being an art thief, one a little too excited that they had "defeated" the trolls, etc...

I'm glad I'm invisible sometimes.

I use the block tool if someone annoys me. If they're annoying me and sending 10+ messages, then I just block them and don't pay attention to what they're writing.
Of course I read like, one of the messages. But if they're sending TONS; then I'll still block them.

Welcome to dA; where drama measures popularity.

Amen. (audience stands and applauds loudly)

Oh, and just a fun note: don't go into the Complaints forum.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you've seen such a thing.
It's one of the many ugly things on the internet. ): >

Sera, this is bound to happen to everyone no matter what you do online. Someone will always show embitterment towards you for no reason at all. That reminds me of little children's problems; "Mom, this chicken is staring at me. Make it stop!" Even posting art without much commenting will provoke unwanted reaction (you're unreachable, therefore you're toffee-nosed). There were haters, there are here now, and there will be more of them in the future. I am prepared.

I'm glad... It's just horrible when it happens to friends. :saddummy:
I've had many "hate" and dislike me because all I do is socialise. People see my lack of art and then grow enraged when they see my page views. I don't cause drama, I don't post art because I know I can't draw and I try to be friendly and informative if needed. Sometimes I think people just do it because they want more attention of potential watchers. I find that those who cause dramas like these only want popularity and get nasty to those who have it and look down on those who don't...
